Trip to Jim Corbett National Park - Day 1
Next day, we reached the
counter at 6 before one hour and waited there. When our chance came, he told us
there were no rooms available in Dhikala, located in the core part of the
jungle and we can stay in some other part like bijrani, Gairal and Jhirna but
we all know after lot of searching that it was the best part with maximum
probability to spot a tiger. Somehow, he agreed to give us the dormitory having
only 8 beds, we readily agreed and thought that we will manage.
Just washing our cab and ourself
Place where we were lost last evening
Then began the
journey in the jungle and our guest house was almost 25 km. and we have to
cover that jungle and it was mandatory to take a guide. We started and that
much peace in the jungle is something that we have never experienced before.
On our way to Dhikala
Our guide shows us the lot of places where Mr. Jim Corbett had an encounter
with the tiger. We all were very excited and finally reached Dhikala.
At Dhikala
He
instruct us to be ready at 3 so that we can go and explore the more as the
gates of the guest house get closed strictly at 6 and it was very dangerous
after that to be in jungle. He cited us lot of incidents when people tried to
become extra smart and found dead next day. Not only that, there were lot of
cars can be seen in jungles which were converted to footballs by the elephants.
The 3 to 6 part was not very excited as lot of time drivers asked to stop the
car and after analyzing the calls of different animals projected that tiger
will come here sooner or later. We were feeling as he was making our fool and
decided to move to explore more and more instead of waiting at one place.
Everybody in the Corbett was desperate to spot a tiger, even some people are
there from more than a week to spot a tiger and were not successful. It was a
matter of sheer luck. After spotting different animals, deer of different
breeds, tusker, He showed us the lifeline of the jungle which is river
Ramganga.
Now, we were going back and in our way, he showed us pugmarks and
said that tiger had come there and we missed a chance to spot it. Now, we were
again very angry at him. He then told us about a lot of incidents and passes
his cognizance about the psyche of animals.
After coming to our guest house, we
were taken to small theater by the guide where the free movie about the jungle
was displayed every evening. The movie was superb and the sole motive of our
next day morning 5 to 9 trip in the forest was to spot a tiger.
After having
our dinner, we told him we will pay him the double if he was successful in
showing us the tiger and we were not interested in any other thing like bird
watching etc and asked him not to waste our time looking for tuskers or any
other animals.
Guest house was covered from all the side by thin fencing and
current was passed in that so that no animal can enter there at night. The current
was generally low so that it will only shock the animal and not kill him. Calls
of different animals were very soothing in the peace of the jungle and not
horrible as we all know that we are safe here from all the sides.
